hey, all! I'm at my grandparents' right now. They live close to our IA house, so we're chillin' here for a few days. Things aren't looking too brilliant at the moment. Mom and Dad talked to an attorney today, and if all goes well Mr. & Mrs. Renter are going to be leaving in the next few days. Ugh. Here we go again. Anybody want to buy/rent-to-own a house in Iowa? Pleeeeaaaase?? I thought we were all done with the 'house-thing'! Hrmph.
Sunday, instead of leaving for Kentucky, we went to the annual church canoe trip/picnic, minus the canoe part. I wish we had known we weren't going on vacation in time to rent a canoe. But we didn't. I must get over that.
The picnic was fun. I played a lot of volleyball. The difficulty was that the sand wasn't sand. It was sand with a wholelotta sharp pebbles mixed in. So diving wasn't easy, and after a while I felt like me feet were going to start bleeding if I took one more step. But they didn't, and I just had to deal with dried-out feet all the way back home. (I don't know about any of you, but I absolutely can't stand dried-out, sandy, gritty feet! Yich!)
That's mostly what I did: played volleyball. There really wasn't much else to do, other than eat or talk or watch other volleyball games. But I soon ate my fill, and the majority of other people were playing volleyball.
Um.
Today my Grandma, Rapunzel, and I went flower shopping. Grandma ended up getting some New Guinea Impatiens, vinca vine, and ornamental grass for her flower pots. I really like the Impatiens! And tomorrow we'll be planting geraniums along the flower beds. It was Florida-ey all day (hot and muggy), and then just as we started planting the flowers, the heavens let loose with a deluge of rain. And then got hot and muggy again. Huh.
Ummm.
I'm now one (or is it two?) posts away from 100!!! I think it's two, 'cause there's an unpublished post in my post list, which doesn't count. I'm going to do 100 random things about me if I can come up with that many. I'm up to 30. And possibly some awards....we'll have to see. :D
Okay, well thusly ends a dull post.
Have a great day, folks! Go do something other than reading my silly little blog!

Hi.
Just so everyone knows, I'm NOT on vacation this week due to Certain People who will remain nameless, but were mentioned in the second post back.
And I'm really grumpy about it, so that's all I'm going to say for now.
Goodbye.
~Kiwi~
p.s. I reviewed In The Hands of God in my last post. Check it out!

In The Hands of God ~~ the Newsboys
Here is the afore-promised review of the In The Hands of God cd by the Newsboys, released May 5th. I must warn you, however, that it is rather biased. But maybe this one will help balance out all the bad reviews.
In The Hands of God is the Newsboys' latest release, with band members Peter Furler (lead vocals), Jody Davis (BGVs, guitar), Jeff Frankenstein (keyboards, synth, BGVs), and Duncan Phillips (drums, percussion). Also appearing on the album are Michael Tait, the band's new lead singer, and Phil Joel, a former member.
The cd begins with "The Way We Roll," an autobiography of sorts. I really enjoyed the song. It's fast and full of drums and good vocals. This song tells the start of the band, from when they were "criss-crossin' the states in some van" (wasn't that The Refrigerator?) to about '94 or '95 when "Shine hit the brights."
Second in line is "No Grave." This song is another new favorite of mine. Peter's voice is amazing in here, and the music is great as well. It makes several references to Australian things that I didn't understand until I Googled them. "Lay my body six feet under down in Old Noarlunga" refers to Noarlunga, South Australia. "The ghost gum trees" are actually a variety of Eucalyptus, if I read this article correctly.
"This is Your Life" is interesting. The verses are well-written, but I have to say I was disappointed by the chorus. "This is your life/Treat yourself right/Treat others right/Live like you know you should//This is life/Fight the good fight/Fight for what's right/Do what you know you should." What exactly is 'right'? what if you have a different definition of the word 'right' from someone else? And I'm sure some people 'know' they should steal something. I know that's not what they meant, but those were some of my first thoughts on it.
"Glorious" is beautifully reminiscent of the worship albums. I was glad they included a worship song, because Adoration and Devotion are two of my favorite albums. I already have most of the lyrics memorized!
You all know "In The Hands of God," I'd assume, because it has been out for several months now. I really like this song as well. It was a good song to release. Of course, don't they always release the title track?
"The Upside" is cool! I really wish it was a lot longer. My favorite lyric is "The future's brighter than a sky full o' blue"! That was a good analogy. Now, when I see a sky full o' blue....
"My Friend Jesus" The style, as odd as it sounds, is almost Relient K-esque, but not annoying like they are. The verses in this one are slower and funny. I think Steve Taylor had a bit to do in this one! I like the way Peter quietly says "And as my fist goes through the wall..." he sounds so patiently resigned there! (by the way, Blueh, you're right, this song isn't chopped liver. ;)
"Lead Me to the Cross" is another worship song. It was written by Brooke Fraser, and performed by Hillsong (?). Despite what some are saying about how 'lame' it is to put someone else's song on your album, especially when it's the lead singer's last album, I liked it. And they've done it before with "I Am Free" and "Blessed Be Your Name," so what's the matter with doing it now, I'd like to know? I like it better than Hillsong's (or whoever else sings it) version.
Oh, and the beginning of the second verse, right after the chorus, sounds like Kutless to me.
I'll have to go listen to "Dance" again. I keep forgetting about it when I play just a song or two at a time! Just by glancing over the lyrics, though, I can remember exactly how it goes. I like the line "then bless my soul," just because that phrase is not used very often! That, and the chorus. "Dance like no one is looking/Sing like no one can hear/Love like you've never hurt before/Live like there's nothing to fear"
"RSL 1984" I was glad to see that I wasn't the only one who thought it sounded a wee bit sad. I really love this song. I could listen to it over and over. References to Mooloolaba, surfing, heading out on tour...It's a keeper!
"The surf and the sky and the Sunshine Coast of gold/Floating on a long board, life on hold...." I want to go there!! Sunshine Coast of gold.....*sigh*
"Let all tears turn to gold/And the hell that’s raised/Lord, let it fade away/As Your glories unfold/Give us a part to play/Grant us another day"
All around, In The Hands of God is an amazing album. It's 100% Newsboys, 100% good music, 100% good vocals. I highly recommend buying it. Not that my opinion makes that much of a difference.
In this one, they seemed to go in for the 'cut it off short' style. You know how on Thrive or Step Up To The Microphone, several songs just fade off into the distance? Well, on here it's the opposite.
Some people complained about the cover. I liked it, despite its faint similarity to GO. My only complaint about it is that they didn't smile in any of the pictures!!! Duncan, Jeff, Jody, Peter, or Mike: If any of you are reading this, please take note: SMILE IN THE PICTURES FOR THE NEXT ALBUM! All of you have great smiles, so use them! :D
But even without the smiles, the pictures are all good. Anybody else spot the picture of the photographer?
So anyway, go out and buy a new cd!
'Bye.

UPDATED
Hey, I just wanted to send out a prayer request or two.
On Friday, my Dad did something to his back, and now it's really hurting him. We're all praying that it will heal soon.
And then there has been some trouble with our renters and their payments. We can't get hold of them. We lost their phone numbers so we (obviously) couldn't call them. Mom drove three hours down yesterday afternoon just to find them not at home, the doors unlocked, the television and lights on, the house a mess, and the lawn not mown yet this year. She left a note, asking them to call us and, guess what? They haven't called.
Not only are they 8 days past the 10 day grace period with their payments, but if they don't pay, we don't have money to go on vacation.
So please be praying about that for us.
Thanks.
~Kiwi~
UPDATE:
We managed to talk to the renters last night, and, if all goes well, most of the stuff should be worked out by Friday.
Thanks for your prayers!

Watch this:
Mom had some shopping to do yesterday, and Jordan, Monkey, and I accompanied her (against our wishes). For some reason, there is something in the store name 'Kohls' that strikes terror into the boys' eyes. As soon as they see that we're pulling into the parking lot they try to resist.
Let's just say that after Kohls, they weren't quite as quiet as before.
Upon reaching home, we remembered what we should have done to quiet them.
Watch this:
:D
Keep that in mind next time you're shopping with a pair of squirrely, giggly boys.
We're leaving for vacation a week from tomorrow!! We're heading down to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. I'm not sure what else we'll be doing, but I can't wait to get to the museum.
Anybody else going to be there?
Okay, well I'll see you later!

Kiwifruit and the Quest for Possum Cave
Kiwifruit the Daring and her *notquiteso* Daring Family headed off to SomewhereElse on Mother's Day, past Possum Cave Road, on the Search for the Good Pizza Restaurant. After succeeding and leaving the premises full and happy, they began the journey home. Little did they know that they would not head straight back, they would begin a Quest that would take them Miles and Miles out of their way!
Upon leaving the Good Pizza Restaurant, Kiwi's brother, Jordan Fruit, piped up from the middle seat.
"I wonder what's down 'Possum Cave Road'? Dad, can we go see if there's a cave on Possum Cave Road?"
"Why, certainly, son, I believe we could do that. What do you say, Mother Fruit?"
Mom Fruit agreed wholeheartedly, so they set off in their green van on the Quest (Quest Quest Quest) for Possum (Possum Possum Possum) Cave (Cave Cave Cave)!
They traveled towards the road they were to explore. Then a question came up: Which way to turn? Left or right??
"Right," Dad explained, "will lead us to the nearest hills. I shall turn that way."
Right, they found, lead them towards the nearest dead end, and the lowest, flattest, most valley-like hill they had ever seen.
Retracing their steps, the daring family plunged into new, formerly unexplored territory. Past farm and plain, past horse and cow (and, they believed, a yak), past tree and bramble. On and on they traveled, driven by the urge to find this elusive 'Possum Cave'. Keeping watch to either side of the van were Kiwi, Monkey, and Dad on the left, Rapunzel, Jordan, and Mom on the right.
Not a hill was seen. Unless this famous Possum had dug himself a Cave in the side of the ditch, Someone had given this street, this pathway, this means-of-getting-from-one-place-to-the-next, a very misleading name. Someone should be thoroughly thrashed!
The tired, unhappy, family, saddened by the uselessness of their seemingly important Quest, returned to their home in relative quiet. None felt like talking. Not one had the strength left to smile. All were wearied and disappointed.
"I say," said Kiwi, "I do wish we had saved that for another day. It sounded so interesting, and it was quite nice passing it and wondering what was at the end. Imagining the Cave and wondering why it was named after a Possum. Now, it is simply another road. Just like any other."
Her family nodded in agreement.
~Kiwi da Authoress~
P.S. I shall give my review of In The Hands of God at a later date. Let it do for now when I say that it's great!
P.P.S. None of you ever gave a satisfactory answer to my Discussion Question: Why does the top of the keyboard have a dollar sign ($), but no cent sign?

Directions To My House:
None of you have actually asked where I live, but I can tell you want to know. You sit and wonder, 'what does her house look like? Where in Wisconsin does she live? I wish she would let us know, just to satisfy my curiosity.' Prepare your curiosity for satisfaction, as I, Kiwi d. Fruit, reveal our true location.
1. Get into the state of Wisconsin. By plane, boat, car, whatever.
2. Seat yourself or your designated driver in the driver's seat of a car. Preferably your car. Don't steal one.
3. Drive along random roads all over the lower half of the state. Stay off Interstates, as they will not help you. Do not drive through the middle of large cities, as that will unnecessarily slow you. Stick to outskirts and the country.
4. Continue to drive randomly until you have this strange, irresistible urge to turn around in a person's driveway.
5. Pull into this driveway and, instead of turning around, park the car. You have reached your destination!
6. Go knock on the door and ask for Kiwi, identifying yourself as one of her blogreaders.
There. Now you can hunt me down! Isn't that great?
The reason for these (rather odd) directions is that our driveway ought to have a toll-booth. Everyone and their uncle find that they have to turn around in our driveway. We've sat in the living room and watched three or four cars turn 'round in one afternoon. I don't know what's so alluring about our driveway that everyone turns around in it, but there must be something. We figure that a toll booth should be set up.
We wait behind the lilac bush for some unsuspecting person to pull in, then swiftly lay out spike strips behind their rear tires. "sorry, ma'am, but we get so many people turning around here that there is now a $1.00 toll. Pay up!"
Also, we suspect that there's something historical about our house. Maybe someone important slept here. I would say Abraham Lincoln, but he was before this house's time. I say this because the people who don't turn around in the drive slow way down and take pictures. Sometimes they even pull into the drive some to take them! Maybe it's just picturesque, but I think it's something else.

After some digging in records, I discovered that this was Al Capone's other Wisconsonian hideout.** He had the well-known one up in Couderay, but there was also another, unheard of one further south. This is that southern hideout!
So, now that I've given you a few things to think over, I'll sign out with a picture.
Until next time, I'm Kiwi da Fruit. (Next time, I'll just be Kiwi. ;-P)

Howdy!
Whow, is it Wednesday already?? I was looking at my latest post, thinking that maybe I should post again, but then decided not to. "It's only Monday."
Only it's not Monday.
Which surprised me.
I'm glad it's not Monday, because then I couldn't have done what I did today. I would make you guess, but then it would take forever and I'd have to hold in my excitement. I went to Walmart and bought my third brand-new cd!! My first was the Newsboys' GO cd, given to me by my friend Miranda. (Thanks Mir!) My second was the In The Hands Of God EP (preview) given to me by Owan. (Thanks Owan!). My third is.....In The Hands Of God, full version!! I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, though, 'cos 'Punzel didn't want to be distracted during rush hour. BUT, I've heard bits 'n' pieces, and love it! "RSL 1984" has a sad ring to it, though. I'm not sure why, but it does. Bits of the tune remind me of "The Orphan" off of Devotion. "The Way We Roll" is reminiscent of something off of Thrive. I need to go listen to both again. "Glorious" is amazing and if you haven't had a chance to listen to it, find one. And, of course, there's "In The Hands Of God" itself, which I assume all of you have heard at least once.
I think I'll set my alarm to wake me up to a brand-new song in the morning. That'll be fun!
I got my pictures loaded onto the computer!! Here're a few to get you started. Maybe for the next few posts I'll stick 3-4 pics on at the end so I can show you all that I want shown.
Remember that walk I mentioned 'Punzel and I going on, on Easter? Well, we passed this spot. Looks like a photo that ought to be on a NB album. Hmm......
That is exactly what it looks like: a pair o' ducks. I think it's quite nicely framed. Not too bad for a snapshot, if I do say so myself!
An' those are duckprints. I think they're interesting.
Well, it's time for me to say G'day. I have supper to eat, dishes to wash, and bible study to attend. So Long!

Okay, okay!
Owan is mad at me for not mentioning that she, two of her sisters, and a guy from church were in a car accident on the 15th. So: Owan and her sisters and a guy from church were in a car accident on the 15th. This 'repaired' computer won't let me put a nice link on, so here is an ugly link to Owan's first post about it: http://oh-wan.blogspot.com/2009/04/war-wounds-census.html here's an ugly link to her second post about it: http://oh-wan.blogspot.com/2009/04/life.html and here is an ugly link to her third post: http://oh-wan.blogspot.com/2009/04/first-there-was-nothing-then-it.html
Everybody (except Scott's car) is pretty much okay. One of Owan's sisters broke her shoulder, but now she seems alright. It's kinda nasty, actually. She enjoys showing where the wires that are holding her bones together are nearly poking through the skin. Ick.
And Dagmar is mad at me for not mentioning that I talked to her two Sundays ago. Which was a highlight of the week, I was just running out of room. We talked for quite a while. And then at the end, we decided that Dagmar would email me twice daily all week long, and then I'd do it the next week. It was fun seeing her emails get progressively emptier and emptier as she struggled for things to say. Alas, since Angus was gone most of last week I didn't get to email her, but starting Sunday..... heh heh heh. >:D
Last night Rapunzel and I went out with some of the other young adults from church to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Wow. It was quite intense (up to last night, the most intense movie I'd seen all the way through was LOTR), quite a few fight scenes, one or two creep characters. I wouldn't recommend going to see it, but it wasn't all that bad in most parts. Although when they replaced his bones with metal (cool!) and he broke out of the tank and ran off......*shakes head and sighs.*
And then, on the way back, I had a 'horrid' thought. "Rapunzel, if anything were to drop on the roof right now, I'd scream." "KIWI!!! WHY did you have to say that?!?!" Actually it would have been the perfect time to sneak up behind us and freak us out. I'm so glad that no one did!
Hopefully this makes Owan and Dagmar happy! Be sure and look at yesterdays post.

Discussion Question: Why is there a dollar sign at the top of the keyboard, but no cent sign?

Big, long, over-due post/I Think I'm Going to Turn Vegetarian
Hi, I'm back! The computer (formerly Angus, then Fritz, and now Angus again 'cause he's not "on the fritz" all the time) has returned to my clutches and is now mine-all-mine for the moment. Guess what I'm doing. I am listening to Jason Gray. On the computer! It's still weird hearing sound coming out of him. (Rapunzel says to specify 'the sound coming out of Angus, not Jason Gray. ;) But weird in a nice sort of way. :-)
I shall do a quickie over-view of the past few weeks. The Wednesday after Easter we went to Madison and the Tea Party.
What was the Tea Party? Well, Wednesday was April 15th. Tax day. People all over the country gathered at the state capitals, or other large towns to protest against raising/unfair taxes, big government, lying officials, stuff like that. What happened in Boston a few hundred years back, when King George raised the tea tax? (Hopefully you remember your Boston tea party hstory lessons) That's where the name came from. TEA also stands for Taxed Enough Already.
So we drove up to participate in that. We had to park 2 (?) miles away, then walk up to the capital. We could have ridden a shuttle bus, but the lines were so long!
When we finally arrived, the square was covered with people with signs, people with tea party tee shirts, people, people, people!! One news station predicted 100 people standing on the steps of the capital. They were right, there couldn't have been more than 100 people standing on the steps, but there were7,900 more on the lawn!
I don't remember the names of all the people who spoke, but y'all can look that up if you want. I do remember one, however. Melika Willoughby, 17 years old and homeschooled! (Don't you just love it when you see other homeschoolers doing really well at something? Despite the fact that we are 'undersocialized' and 'poorly taught', we can still do things! :)
Here's her speech.
So what do you think? I think she did pretty well.
After the 'party' was over, I got my first ride in a school bus (Drat! Broke my perfect unattendance record!) back to the lot our car was in.
On Sunday before the service started, Dad motioned me over and secretively pointed someone out to me.
"Isn't that the girl who spoke at the tea party Wednesday?"
I wasn't so sure, but he shooed me over anyway ("It can't hurt to find out!") and, waddayaknow, it was! We got to talk quite a bit before and after the service. She has two sisters, they are all in competative debate, they are all homeschooled, they know some people at our church and were visiting them.... Anyway. We exchanged emails, so hopefully we can stay in touch.
I just thought that was quite a coincident!
And now just a (very) quick telling of my past two weeks. Week before last we didn't do much. I got aquainted with my new bike. (which I love.) I found that padded handlebars are infinately better than unpadded ones, but they both work equally well.
Angus went in for a check up, and came back working well. We're having to re-install everything from pre-repairation (is that a word?), which is taking forever to do.
Um, this past week we watched a movie or two. Today we cooked freezer meals. Mom purposefully chose me to cut up the stew meat, e'en though she knows full well that I don't like handling raw meat. She says I should get used to it. I say I'm going to be a vegetarian cook.
I don't mind eating cooked meat, it's just when it's raw, bloody, etc. that I dislike it.
We also went to church to meet the Associate Pastoral Candidate. He's not a football-watching person (HOOrah!), he's a baseball-watching person (HaHa!!) who roots for the Cubs. :-) Good fer him. (We missed most of the Q&A part, so that's most of what I learned about him! I didn't just neglect the important parts)
So that is, in a nutshell, what my past two weeks have been like. What have y'all been doing?

P.S. A discussion question: Why is there a dollar sign ($) at the top of the keyboard, but no cent sign? Please explain it to me.
