A bunch of quotes

Hello, I had meant to blog Monday, but....it didn't happen. Therefore I shall blog today. =)
I just finished reading Emma by Jane Austen. It's a good book, with lots of interesting quotes in it, such as:

"'It is very pretty,' said Mr. Woodhouse.....'The only thing I do not thoroughly like is, that she seems to be sitting out of doors, with only a little shawl over her shoulders; and it makes one think she must catch cold.'
'But, my dear papa, it is supposed to be summer; a warm day in summer. Look at the tree.'
'But it is never safe to sit out of doors, my dear.'"
(Mr. Woodhouse is always mildly ill, has to sit by a fire even on sweltering days in summer, and is always afraid that his daughter, or "Poor Miss Taylor," or Someone is going to catch cold or get indigestion. He's sort of entertaining that way, but I don't know if I'd be able to handle living with someone that cautious!)

"It may be possible to do without dancing entirely. Instances have been known of young people passing many, many months successively without being at any ball of any description, and no material injury accrue either to body or mind: but when a beginning is made-when the felicities of rapid motion have once been, though slightly, felt-it must be a very heavy set that does not ask for more."

"She checked herself, however, and submitted quietly to a little more praise than she deserved."

Those are all from Emma, and this is something Jane Austen said in a letter to someone:
"I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal."
And this is from a wonderful movie called "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." (If you haven't seen it, go find it and watch. It's one of the best. =)

"Now Adam, you're my oldest brother. I always looked up to you, tried to ape you, but I just wouldn't feel right if I didn't tell you how I feel. *POW!!*
And lastly, Downhere has a new song!!!!

Isn't it a good one?!? I can't wait to hear more from them! =D
Goodbye for now, I must leave.

Quotes:

"Mawidge is a dweam wiffin a dweam....The dweam of wuv wapped wiffin the gweater dweam of everwasting west. Etwernity is our fwiend, wemember that, and wuv wiw fowwow you fowever."
~The Princess Bride
by S. Morgenstern,
'edited' by William Goldman

"Inigo was in Despair.
Hard to find on the map (this was after maps) not because cartographers didn't know of its existence, but because when they visited to measure its precise dimensions, they became so depressed they began to drink and question everything, most notably why would anyone want to be something as stupid as a cartographer? It required constant travel, no one ever knew your name, and, most of all, since wars were always changing borders, why bother? There grew up, then, a gentleman's agreement among mapmakers of the period to keep the place as secret as possible, lest tourists flock there and die."
~Buttercup's Baby
by S. Morgenstern,
'edited' by William Goldman

"They danced again; and when the assembly closed, parted on the lady's side at least with a strong inclination for continuing the acquaintance. Whether she thought of him so much, while she drank her warm win and water, and prepared herself for bed, as to dream of him when there, cannot be ascertained, but I hope it was no more than in a slight slumber, or a morning doze at most; for if it be true, as a celebrated writer has maintained, that no young lady can be justified in falling in love before the gentleman's love is declared, it must be very improper that a young lady should dream of a gentleman before the gentleman is first known to have dreamt of her."
~Northanger Abbey
by Jane Austen

"Charles was like most stupid people; he was not stupid all the time. He had occasional flashes of common sense, and even of brilliance. He had one now.
~Freddy and Simon the Dictator
by Walter R. Brooks

While standing out in the rain, playing volleyball, my friend said:
"It's like taking a shower....only less...naked."

"Finding interesting quotes was a hobby of hers. Her goal was to memorize the best of them, to use at proper moments later, in random conversations. Having found many on her own, she now wished to know her friend's favorite quotes, and whether or not they enjoyed her favorites."

New Background

I decided it was time for a change in backgrounds. I got bored with the other one. It was too wintery. Why should I have a winter template during winter? It just reminds me how cold and dreary it is outside. (okay, it's not all that dreary, it's actually quite sunny, but cold, yes!) In the winter, one should have a Spring or Summer template to help one remember how warm it used to be, and how warm it will be again. Having a cold-paletted Winter background just increases one's awareness as to how cold it is, whereas warmer colors help cheer and warm one up! Come Summer, I might stick a cold, snowy picture on here to cool you down.

I had all these quotes from books I've read recently to show y'all, but left my notebook with the quotes in it at home. (I'm at the library. And yes, I'm just that lazy!) =P So that'll be my next post on here: book quotes! Perhaps I'll have y'all try to guess what book each quote is from...make it into a contest.

Samwise the Brave meets Owl City??

"We shouldn't be here at all, if we'd known more about it before we started. But I suppose it's often that way. The brave things in the old tales and songs, Mr. Frodo: adventures, as I used to call them. I used to think that they were things the wonderful folk of the stories went out and looked for, because they wanted them, because they were exciting and life was a bit dull, a kind of a sport, as you might say. But that's not the way of it with the tales that really mattered, or the ones that stay in the mind. Folk seem to have been just landed in them, usually — their paths were laid that way, as you put it. But I expect they had lots of chances, like us, of turning back, only they didn't. And if they had, we shouldn't know, because they'd have been forgotten. We hear about those as just went on — and not all to a good end, mind you; at least not to what folk inside a story and not outside it call a good end. You know, coming home, and finding things all right, though not quite the same — like old Mr Bilbo. But those aren't always the best tales to hear, though they may be the best tales to get landed in! I wonder what sort of a tale we've fallen into?"
I love that quote... Sam is ever hopeful, loyal, brave, more courageous than a king, simple, loving, and a wonderful friend. Oh yes, here's the part in the movie that was derived from that quote... One of the best parts in all three of the movies. :)
Sam: "It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, its only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines it'll shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, and meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folks in those stories had lots of chances of turnin' back, only they didn't. They kept goin', because they were holdin' on to somethin'."
Frodo: "What are we holding onto, Sam?"
Sam: "That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fightin' for."
Oh my goodness... I feel like crying and laughing at that part, every time I watch it. :) Sam's hope and courage in the face of seemingly undefeatable darkness is amazing... and his words are so true. :)

I hope you're all having a wonderful after-Christmastime! ;)
That's directly from my friend's blog. I watched The Two Towers the other night and decided I had to put that quote on here.....Then I checked her blog and guess what she put on there! So instead of typing it out myself, I copy-and-pasted.
I'd say that Samwise Gamgee the Brave is one of my favorite LotR characters. If I were a hobbit, I'd wish I were Rosie Cotton. =)

The other day, while scanning through radio stations, I discovered "Owl City." I'd seen Matt featuring them on his Free Christian Music Blog, *doesabitofshamelessplugging* but always forgot to check 'em out. Anyway, a song caught my attention, so I stopped and listened to it. Lo and behold, it was the people I'd been meaning to look up! So here's "Fireflies" by Owl City.

I'm still not sure of what the song means, or if it really has a meaning, but it's kind of catchy isn't it?

I'm working on my 2010 To-Do List. One of the things I want to do is consistently post twice weekly. Keep me to it!!
I'll go ahead and get my second post ready to go on Saturday. So long!

p.s. did the title catch your attention?
